Question for you skwerl experts??

My buddy just gave me one of these rubber/plastic blunts from    3 Rivers  and my question is would these be good for squirels? Lets say if i make a less than perfect shot (meaning the haed) and hit him in chest/shoulder area, would it still do the job? thanks for an input...Curtis

For gray and fox squirrels the Bludgeon just won't do the job consistently...lots more lost than retrieved.

They will work on the little Red/pine squirrels.

Gray and Fox squirrels demand the use of some sort of blade for consistant success. Lots of guys rig up some sort of homemade head for economy and effectiveness... a .38 shell casing and triangle of steel glued in a slot comes to mind.

If you have deep pockets or can limit your shots to squirrels on the ground, the Magnus Blunt will fill the bill.

Charlie speaks the truth! I do quite a bit of squirrel hunting, and the only "blunt" type head I have luck with is an Ace hex blunt. My go to head is what Mr. Lamb described above... mount a .38 casing over end of shaft, cut a slot about a quarter inch deep in the tip with a hacksaw, then glue a piece of banding steel in the slot. This gives you the shock of a blunt, but also a cutting edge.

Brad managed a squirrel my first morning out from my deer stand, 12yard w/ a hex head, went in right below the neck and out the off side back leg....skewered him almost perfectly   :D

I would agree with those who are suggesting the bladed blunt in some form. Squirrels, especially fox squirrels, are amazingly tough to stop cold with anything other than a head shot and can make it up a tree and in a hole with a surprisingly hard hit from a blunt. A head that penetrates, especially if it stays in the squirrel, works better than anything I've tried.

If you've ever had a squirrel "come back to life" in your squirrel pouch an hour after you've put him there "dead" ( I have) you'll appreciate the bladed blunt. I'm sitting on some video of Torges putting the coup de grace on a "dead" squirrel he had carried around quite awhile.

Sorry Jason, no can do. Although hilarious, the language and comments spewing from John, Spudley, and Dean makes this footage only viewable within the confines of a locker room. Besides, Dean would kill me......or worse.

The bladed heads are probably the best but most of mine are taken with Judo's or Hex heads.  I can't say enough good about the Ace Hex Blunt.  I used to think a blunt was a blunt until my hunting partner gave me some of those Hex's.  Those things are bad medicine for squirrels and other small game.

G5 makes a small game head that looks promising, but, at about $7 each I'de hope they come with a bag of dead bushys...

I like the .38 casing with a blade, too. But, I have taken several with the Hex Blunts, and they certainly do the job.....
