Calf hair rest question.

Hey,  which is the best direction for the hairs to lay on a calf hair rest? Towards the target , me , or at an angle? Does it matter? I appreciate it

Always toward the target.

The hair "grain" should be away from you, laying in the direction of arrow travel.  Oddly enough, if you watch the slo-mo videos of archer's paradox a properly tuned arrow makes very little contact other than at rest and being drawn, so it may be a moot
point.  I've had them last for years with no visible signs of wear. It would make a lot of difference on the face of a tab though.
