RER Arroyo opinions & brace height- 58"?
« on: August 27, 2015, 07:00:00 PM »
I just bought a 58" rer arroyo and was wondering what brace height you guys that own/owned a 58" model were running? I couldn't find the info on the website.

Also, what's y'all's thoughts and opinion of the bow are?

Thanks, Mike

I have a longer one so I can't help you on the brace. But I have shot several including my 62" and I can say that they are a great bow and as quick as they come. Not to bad on the eyes either.

Congrats on your new bow.If I remember right, the old RER site recommended 7 1/2 - 8".My 58" Arroyo seems to like it at 7 3/4".

I concur at 7 3/4

Dead quiet bow best static recurve I've shot. Very easy to get longbow quiet

Gator
How does the RX compare to the Arroyo especially in the grip.  I have an LX and want to get a RER recurve.  Trying to decide between a one piece or an RX.

tracker12,the XR and LX are the same riser and  grip so both accept the same recurve and longbow limbs.RER also makes a short riser for each,CXR&CLX,but I'm not sure they'll accept the the same limbs used on the standard LX and XR.
I have an Arroyo and an XR and the grip is a bit beefier with more palm swell on the Arroyo.

my Retro is probably a tad low at 7 1/4", but that's the sweet spot for it. my LXR is probably closer to 7 1/2". can't beat RERs. they are my go-to bows.

I have both (well, actually three) configurations). The LX/XR are the same riser, as Gator pointed out. mine is the takedown with both recurve and longbow limbs. it's a heavier, bigger riser, similar to what you see with a lot of takedown recurves.

my Retro is the much slimmer and smaller riser. a much lighter bow overall, and thus better suited to be a one piece, IMO.

I love both bows, but the Retro is my baby. I prefer the lighter, slimmer riser for a number of reasons.

The Arroyo is kind of a hybrid between the two. bigger, beefier riser with more palm swell, but still less mass than a takedown riser. it really is about personal preference in the grip, since they all shoot lights-out!

Thanks... It came in the day I left for a week trip for work, so I haven't had a chance to shoot it. The craftsmanship is great. The grip is bigger than expected ( 5.25" around the throat ), but it maybe something easy to get used to. I'll start with a 7 3/4" bh and go from there.

I might keep an eye out for a Retro.  I love the grip on my LX and I shoot it better than any other bow in my stable.  Good luck with the new bow.  I'm sure it will work out for you RER bows are as good as they get.

I agree with tracker2.

I have some nice bows, but my RERs have stolen my heart. if you really love a slim riser and a light mass, the Retro is your pick. if you want a bit thicker grip, but still a one-piece and fairly light, it's the Arroyo. if you want a traditional takedown with a fuller grip and more mass, it's the LX/XR. the Vital is also an option.

I have also read that Ike and Chester are turning out a product that is keeping alive the quality and tradition that Kevin and Sue started. that's good to know, because they are awesome bows.

Sorry I haven't replied

Tracker I believe you've answered your own question.  If you like your LX grip id really consider getting recurve limbs for your LX.  You would have an identical grip

I've owned the arroyo retro and 2 XR's. I've grown fond of the tad more mass weight and XR grips. At 15" rider I find them to very compact my / XR's have different grips just slightly. My 60 inch is a tad lower than my 58"r.

I strung up my 58" this week and amazed how quiet it was with no silencers

Tied on a 4" half width of cat whiskers over hand knot and it is very quiet.   And I feel at my mid 40 lb draw weight they are quick

same here on the quietness. all i have on my Retro are the cat whisker that came on it, and it is "longbow" quiet, or quieter.
