low prifle banana fletching

Just curious as to what is considered low profile? I received some 4" low profile banana cut feathers and it just seems too low, about 3/8". My arrows seem to fly good but just a little nervous using the low profile cut.

My favorite fletching is banana cut but like a little wider profile.

if your arrows are tuned properly, it wont matter imo.

If they are flying well, there's no need to be nervous.

My feathers are only a half inch tall from the part of the quill that contacts the arrow to where the feather has been cut. If your arrows and bow are in tune I think a low long fletch is good.

There is no perfect rule - just educated suggestions.  If it works for you, then go with it!

I use a low profile fletch.  3/8" tall, 4" long - however, I use 4 fletch.  I have cut them to 3.5" to make a "shield" profile and it works great, too.

Just as a bit of history, one of the indian tribes (can't remember which) had a general guideline that the fletching was as tall as the arrow was wide.  So for a 3/8" arrow, the feathers were no more than 3/8" tall.

Gentlemen, thanks for your responses. But IMO a bad release will mess up a perfectly tuned arrow. I don't have anything against the low profile and would use them if I was stand hunting but for a spot and stalk over and under all kinds of terrain I think a little extra fletch is a good Idea. In practice, every once in a while I see my low profile fletched arrow "wonder" a little. I know its not the arrow but my release. I practice my release all the time but I know that sometimes bad release happens. And to me the only hope you have after a not so good release is your fletching.

I purchased these feathers from Josh Echterling. The feathers are perfect as far as the cut goes. Josh did an excellent job. These are wild turkey feathers RW.

Each of us is different in the way we shoot and how we perceive our arrow's flight...

I'd get arrows "tuned perfect" and then back up to 20-25 yards and see this "kick" but they'd "land right" in the target...

Troy Breeding's tuning guide on the Tuff Head site goes into that.

What I thought would be perfectly tuned arrows, weren't.

I shoot a 3x1/2" feather successfully.  Alas, on non-wood arrows... and bare shaft tune to death.

Correct me if I am wrong somebody but the short vane arrow will retain it;s velocity better so it it flies right being short then it should be a good thing.

IMO banana cuts look cool but, the tall cut ones not only slow down the arrow but are way to noisy for me and wife says I am deaf. I modified my chopper to lower the fletch. That helped a bunch with the noise. Just to much feather for me.
Like others have said, well tuned arrow should not make diff in fletch height. Example, I found some 4 in. vanes with a banana profile. They are a 5/16 high at highest. They fly great with my old Bear Razorheads.
