I managed to get a kitchen pass to go back up to Ontario on a black bear hunt..... my 7th overall and 3rd with traditional gear.  I have been fortunate enough to bring back 3, but I have not been lucky enough with the longbow. All 6 trips up have a blast and last year, my son accompanied me. He couldn't hunt (wasn't 16 years old), but he had a wonderful time fishing and sitting with me. It's truly beautiful up there and always marvel at God's  creation.

Hopefully, this is the year!  Packing everything tomorrow evening and heading out Thursday night to beat traffic up I-35. I will keep you all posted.

To say I'm excited would be an understatement! !!!
I'm sure that we will have a great time.

Good luck to all early season hunters, shoot straight and above all else.....

God bless!

Made it back home late last night..... 930 miles one way makes for a long day!

6 of 8 shot bears and 5 were brought home. The biggest was a boar that field dressed 274 lbs.  Only 1/5 was taken with trad gear, so I won't go into any details.

I had my chance, but couldn't pull it off.  Maybe next year!!!!!  I thought 3rd time might be the charm, but it just didn't happen.  There is a lot of talk in Ontario about bringing back the spring season....  anybody have any insight on that????

We had a great group of guys and we all had a blast!
Beautiful country and I can't say enough about the rush that bears bring to the bowhunter!

If anyone out there is teetering on the fence about whether to go or not....... DEFINITELY DO IT!  It is special.

Anyone who wants anymore info about my accommodations can pm  me.

Good luck folks and God bless!

Sounds like you had a great time!

The 80,000 member Ontario Federation of Hunters and Anglers is working hard to restore spring bear hunting. Starting in 2014 a spring season for resident bear hunters was initiated in parts of the province.

I too hope to return to spring bear hunting in Ontario. I last hunted bears there in 1985...been a long time.

Sorry it didn't all come together for you Rod, but it sounds like fun was had!

One of these days I'm going to find a way to make it to a bear hunt!
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
