New member salutations
« on: September 02, 2015, 12:35:00 PM »
Hello fellow hunters.  I am going on my first Trad hunt this weekend so I thought I would sign up and say hello.  I rifle hunted for many years and wanted to give archery another go.  In WA state, you have to designate which hunting method you use when buying a tag, so I'm locked in for this year.  As my name implies, I also like to bird hunt with my German Shorthair.  The early season for archery lasts pretty much all of September so this will work perfectly for getting my dog out more this fall.

I had a Martin compound bow a few years back but never really liked shooting it.  When I decided on archery, I definitely wanted to give traditional a go.  Boy is it addicting!  I started with a 50# Kodiak Mag that I found at a pawn shop and shortly added a 29# Bear Cub I bought online.  I will be hunting with a 50# Omega Delta Shortbow that forcibly sends my full length Gold Tip Traditional's with 150gr Stinger Buzzcuts down range.  I'm hunting in an area of Eastern Washington that I am very familiar with - I've harvested 2 spike elk over the last 4 years.  I built a ground blind over a well used mud wallow that I can't wait to get to on Saturday.  God willing an elk or mule deer will come by to greet me!

Welcome to the Gang, Shorthair.  Looking forward to the story and pictures.

Welcome, and good luck.  Remember the camera.

I have a young Wirehaired Pointing Griffon that I adopted into my family last spring.  Last fall I bought into a game farm to get him onto birds and he did very well ( but I didn't).  This fall might be very dogcentric for me as I try to run him fairly hard every two or three days to get into and stay in shape ( unfortunately. .  HE runs, I walk).

I will be carrying a Hill style that I built this spring on most of my bird hunts this fall, so I may lose some weight ( from not eating).

Good luck! I lived just north of Spokane 2013-2014 and hunted whitetails right there in my backyard. Also had a GREAT Mule Deer spot about 10 miles south of St John...Eastern WA is one of the best places to hunt based on my two years there...I really miss it!! Where exactly are you hunting? And where do you live?

Thanks everyone!

I hunt in the Bumping unit on the north side of Rimrock Lake.  I live in Yakima, so it is nice and close.  Camp is only about a 1 hour drive from my house.
