Wax or protective coating???

I was wondering if anyone has tried any types of wax or spray on film like protective coatings like they have in the auto industry to protect there bows? If you have, what seems to work good and actually protect the bow from nicks and scratches but of course wont hurt the finish of the bow?

I use SC Johnson Paste Wax for wood. Available at Home Depot in a 16oz can for $6.00.

This, although any paste wax for wood will work.

I suspect the spray-on finishes you are considering will prove to be far more prone to chip or peel off than wax.

What about scent?  Do any of these wax finishes leave behind a scent?

After putting any type of clear finish on, or over a factory finish I use Butcher's Wax. They use it for Bowling Alleys.(Or used to, not sure about nowadays). It is super hard, and when fresh smells like turpentine. So it has a pine smell, but quickly goes away.
I wax all my bows, especially those with snake skin on limbs at least twice a year with it.
But if you smack your bow, its going to dent, nick, or similar no matter what is on it.
 Waxes will help prevent branch and brush scratches, and help keep moisture off the finish, which is very important.

I use Johnson's Paste wax too, and a can will go a long ways. As far as scent goes, I'm sure I leave more behind than the wax.

I just re read your post, and I realised that you weren't talking so much about weather protection as you were protection from dents and dings. That's what I get for jumping in when I'm half asleep.

Can you put wax on wood grip where you have worn the finish off. I don't care what kind of finish is on a riser in about a year it will be off the grip area. The same thing happens to my guitar necks and shotgun grip and forearms. My wife says my hands are like sand paper and stay sweaty.

Have used  Johnson's for years.  Sometimes I rub a light coating on it and leave it there. Dulls the shiny finish. Let it wear off..
