I'm not interested in any more TV hunting shows.  I will occasionally purchase hunting DVDs I think will be worthwhile where the individuals doing the hunting don't look like a NASCAR driver plastered with logos who are constantly trying to sell me something.  DVDs like "Stalkers in the Backcountry", Lettin' Loose, Traditional Harvests, etc. have all entertained me while not overwhelming me with sickening commercials and tacky product shots. I suggest buying a few good TRAD DVDs and forget about the commercialized TV shows.

WOW. That is a brilliant post.  I couldn't have expressed this sentiment better myself.

Thanks BWallace, Im sure I may speak for a few people when I say that hunting has become just another hobbies/activity/check list thing to conquer or master for far too many people. Some say it shouldn't matter to me what others do or the reason why they hunt...well it does, especially when i see how commercial this passion of mine has become. I can remember the days when I bowhunted without a clue of what I was doing. But I was learning each season. I went 5 years before i ever killed a deer with a bow. It made me want it that much more. How many of these squirrely 20 somethings with the latest and greatest bow and all the gadgets would stick it out for 5+ years without a kill? Not many, cuz it ain't about the why and how to them, it's about the ME. Instant hero for sure. If they can't reach that in a short time, they move on to something else. I am mostly tired of the "score this the score that, he wasn't has big as I thought, I feel bad for shooting such an inferior buck" blah blah blah...have respect for the animal, so what if he didn't make book, or score X number of inches..it's God's gift to you, be thankful!!

I don't watch any of the hunting shows on TV and don't even give them a 1st look chance. its all marketing and not even close to reality as I know it, and yes BWallace10327  is dead on the money with his post....  I want to watch real hunters like the people that post here and in the other forums and youtube is where I go to watch my hunting shows to me its the real deal,, put in selfbow, put in longbow, put in hunting with a spear and its all right there!!!

now with video more coming and easy for the typical person I'm looking forward to the home hunting video to get even better,,,,,, use whatever stickbow, arrows and broadheads you want and make a good DVD and yes I will buy it!

Few years back I pitched an Idea to a few "networks" about a bowhunting show, that was along the lines of more traditional.  Basicly, it was a re-telling of some of the legends of bowhunting, and re-enactments, along with bringing in some of the modern experts like a few on here to interview, and also have a segment of bowhunting tackle/education.  The "hunting" channel's was not interested, do to the lack of advertising dollars.  History was interested but no more follow up on it.  Would be awesome to possible do a dvd set with bio's and interviews of the legends still with us, to capture the information and nostalgia.

If it would be done along the lines of the way most of the hunting shows are done now, I'd rather not. Of course Ron is right. I seldom watch one anymore but nothing makes me cringe more than seeing everyone high fiving a borderline shot or especially the guy with his 25 grain arrow running 750fps getting 2" of penetration [shudders]. At least with a traditional show you wouldn't see that.

yeh good ol fist pump 7 times after the shot and the school girl giddy laughs....grow up, have respect, there is nothing funny about taking a living creature. I understand being happy and excited, but show some class and maturity. Praise God for the gift, give thanks to that animal, it's not a game to them, it's literally life and death every day to them. Be humble that you were able to fool him/her for just a moment because 9 times out of 10 he fools you.

This. I remember how upset I was when Tred got sick and his hunting shows stopped. You just can't fake true passion like most of the shows.
