Fully painted arrows ???

My buddy shoots all white arrows with white feathers. We call them angels...
Anyways, he uses white gasket lacquer. Two dips and he's done.
He's been shooting the same arrows for a long time, so I wonder if he can even get it anymore?

Gasket lacquer is used on pencils and I talked to the company that makes it and if I bought a large enough quantity they would sell me orange gasket lacquer.  I could save a little money if I went with Home Depot orange because they already had the formula.  It was just more than I could use in ten lifetimes.

Kinda brought an old thread back here to answer a couple of questions I have about fully painted arrows......

I love the looks of these, and really think the "visibility" aspect of these will be nice. As well as being able to find 'em a little easier than my stained and crested arrows.....          

1. Does a guy straighten, cut to length, taper, glue on the nocks, then mask the nocks and begin painting? Seems like the nocks absolutely HAVE to go on before paint, to orient the spine correctly..... What "order of events" do you use to get the painted shafts to the fletching stage?

2. How much weight would y'all estimate the paint adds to the shafts? My reloading grain scale works good for my pistol & rifle reloads, but won't go high enough to weigh my arrows. An earlier post from a member ("two4hooking", I think??) recommended 4 coats of brushed on rustoleum. Now, I like the heavy arrows philosophy, but this seems like it would really add some "chunk" to even Port Orford cedars???

I use rattlecan paint.
Wooden arrows are expendable so I don't spend a lot of time making them look really nice. Hate to make the arrows really pretty then break one. Or lose one.

When I spray painted my carbons it seemed like a coat of paint weighed around 10 grains

If you use wood shafts you can use yellow and white gasket lacquer, better thin it though, the stuff I've purchased was thick.

I do. I paint my squirrel arrows blaze orange. The whole shaft. Impossible to lose them even when shooting up into trees at squirrels. When using carbon arrows for deer hunting I paint the entire shaft with grey rustoleum. It makes it easier for me to aim in low light and blood shows up better on it as well.

Jon, do you spray the shafts? Or another method. And do you clear coat them?
