Camo questions!
« on: October 02, 2015, 05:26:00 PM »
Hey guys, I need to pick up some rainy weather gear (also known as 'gear' in Washington).

I have always really liked the gamehide suede stuff. We have tons of blackberries around here and its not very cold so it fits the bill about perfect. It's tough, not too hot, and pretty darn waterproof.

Do you guys have any recommendations for that type of gear?

I am looking for pants and light winter top. Hopefully in ASAT or Predator camo.

Any others to consider?

PS Does this stuff work as good as a raincoat? How long can you be in the rain before your all wet?

Thank you for the help!!

I hunt mostly in wool... However! I have had VERY good luck, spraying old cotton Camo with Camp-Kote tent waterproofing years ago!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

ASAT for sure. check out First Lite's rain gear. have not used it personally, but I have a ton of their other stuff, and I read in a thread here just today that their rain gear is awesome.

I have to report my honesty daybone is not what they used to be sorry but the quality is not there the stitching and sewing is sub par. A friend of mine bought some of their stuff lately and it was way oversized after I told him what he wore and I saw firsthand the workmanship it's nowhere near what they used to be I would not buy day one again also there are too many sponsors that make quality stuff

A few years back, I bought some Maddog raingear during a downpour in Tillamook, Oregon. They seem to know something about rain and raingear in that part of the world. My Maddog stuff has kept me dry since then, including some never ending rain in Alaska for days on end.

Can anyone tell me more about the first light marino wool? I like the first light stuff for sure but initially didn't consider it because I thought it was too light duty.

Is it water resistant at all? Would it hold up to the land of old growth blackberries? I need something pretty robust, that's why I was liking the bucksuede, saddlecloth, gamehide type of stuff.

I am not looking for 'raingear'. Most everyday rains here at some point in the fall/winter. But were talking drizzle not downpours. I just want some clothes that shed water really good.

I only have 3 pieces of First Lite merino wool, so take this for what it is worth! I can't speak to the waterproofness, because I have not worn mine in the rain. Heck, it has not rained here in over 2 months! I love the 3 pcs I have because they are very lightweight, but also are very insulating. I can stay warmer with less bulk. I would not think they would fare well against thorny blackberry bushes though!

Johnny K 71, has use the first lite stuff for a few years now. He can comment more than I, but I just recently acquired some pants and a shirt this last year and love them. Good range of gibberish yours they are suited for  and very lightweight. Fairly water resistant considering the way they make the clothing. And I also really like the fusion camo they use. John is partial to ASAT

If you're talking "drizzle" and not downpour in Predator camo, then Gray wolf woolens "wolfskin" is worth a peek.  Mine sheds light rains pretty well.
