I hunt PA and NJ since I live on the border. There has been an early season open in each state, but I have not been out as much as I would like. Today was the state wide opener in both states, but there is too much wind and rain. I do however love being in the woods during stormy weather. It is a great time to scout, and re-acquaint myself with old spots. The wind and rain help cover all my noisy trudging around, as well as washing away the scent I leave behind.
So, this afternoon I took a walk around an old spot I hunt on and off over the years. It is a state acquired old farm. Some field are still planted with bean and corn, while others have been left to grow in. This place is getting thick! There is an oak forest on a steep ridge at the back end of this place, and the acorns are littering the ground.
With the swirly winds, I know I bumped some deer around. I even saw a couple at a distance. The good news is, an old sit I had is still covered in sign. Plenty of fresh tracks tearing up the mud on the trails, rubs, and acorns.
I think I will have to be giving this place a try during the coming week days.
