As the Wisconsin youth hunt is about to get under way this coming weekend, I decided to get out and try my luck before things get squirrelly.
The wind was perfect for the stand I was going to. Beautiful 60 degree day with a low of 48. We have had a fair amount of rain the past month so the ground was still unable to soak up everything that Mother Nature has dished out. There was still a lot of standing water in my favorite spot.
Needless to say i was a little noisy approaching the stand. I climbed up sat back and tried to unwind from a terribly busy work week.
The woods has such a soothing effect on ones soul. The smells and sounds has a way of erasing the stress of work.
A half hour before dark I look up and I caught movement in front of me. There was a couple of deer 40/60 yards out headed towards me. I stand up to get ready for a possible opportunity. Heart beating uncontrollably, adrenaline surging, fingers on the string I watched as they quietly slipped away nibbling on browse. They definitely had other plans this evening then I did.
I sit back down with a smile on my face giving thanks for being able to whitness such wonderful creatures in their natural habitat. Although an arrow was never realesed, I consider it a successful hunt.
On the way back to my vehicle, I look to my left and see my customary target I just can't resist loosing an arrow to..
