My 3 year battle with a groundhog.
« on: October 14, 2015, 02:58:00 AM »
I have been playing a game of cat and mouse with the groundhog that my brother-in-law has dubbed "Gary" for 3 years now. I have shot at him a few times and missed, or he will beat me to the field and spook off when I am heading to the deer stand. This year on our Hoosier opening day (October 1st) Gary finally lost. He was about 20 yards to my 6 o'clock and I was able to draw down on him once again. My first arrow hit a little back on his body and went through his hips making him immobile, I was able to send Woodsman Bloodgroove through the vitals very quickly on my follow-up shot. It was a great 3 year hunt for Gary, and it was my first kill with my Javaman Helm's Deep. Hope everyone has a great season!   [/IMG]   [/IMG]   [/IMG]

That is a great story. I got permission to hunt "chucks" on a nearby piece of property. The owner has one that lives under his barn. Too close to use a firearm on so I told him I would see what I could do about this critter with my bow. Took some others but not the barn one. He is the smartest chuck I have yet to encounter. He lives to this day. I'll just have to up my game next year. Great animals to hunt. By the way, why did you name him Gary? Never heard of anyone naming a woodchuck. I have some names for the barn chuck but can't print them here.

one of the most fun critters to chase with a bow. Now that I have an electric fence and the dogs are out, we don't have them on our property. Miss chasing after them.
