I think a posted sign ON the stand and a lengthy note would be my first step!

To be honest I am frankly dissappointed in the promotion of vandalism early in this thread. What kind of action are you really promoting there? It is helping no one on either side of this situation.  Let us not overreact for the situation at hand.

As Mike mentioned, this might have been an honest mistake for the guy to go through the trouble of building a stand there.  If you honestly lost track of property lines and built a stand on what you thought was open land and then had it vandalized, how would you feel?

The fella needs to know he is trespassing first of all.  Write a note and attach it to his stand. Maybe he was just confused and moves it. If the note is taken and nothing is done, then get the authorities involved.

I think we sometimes have a tendency to overreact when our space is infringed upon.  Play it cool and resolve the issue not with revenge, but with a well thought out response.

I am pretty sure that all the people advocating acts of 'vandalism' earlier were just kidding.

To me this is a no-brainer, the man builds a tree stand on somebody else's land, no permission, there is no question.

Well there kind a is,

No need to confront him. Get a long range rifle with a good scope and shoot him... unless his a real, traditional bowhunter...

Seriously now: use words (spoken or written) they are great tools for communication. A good way to find out "what was he thinking" too.

I believe that one of the problems we have with society and politics is the lack of severe punishment ie the loss, of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth..there would be a lot less encroachment on our rights and our land if the encroachers knew there was something else coming at them than a little white ticket. Not Promoting violence but certainly a firm hand..Even if he was confused ignorance is not an excuse..

This one has gone on about long enough. Follow the proper steps through the authorities and give the fellow the benefit of the doubt. We don't need to be feeding on our own and someone who put that much effort in, probably believes they are on property they are allowed to hunt. Anyone can make a mistake and when you make one I bet you'd like a chance to correct it.
