Anyone Use the Howard Hill Gloves??
« on: November 10, 2015, 11:08:00 PM »
Hey all,

I normally shoot a 3-under tab, but there are times when I like to use a glove.  The glove I like most is one that isn't made anymore and is probably 20+ years old.  It's sort of a Hill style glove but the stalls are longer.

A while back I tried the Deluxe Hill glove and sold it not long after because it felt like it would've taken me 5 years to break it in.

I'm thinking that I might want to try it again.  I don't know if I should try the Deluxe again or go with the standard and have them make the stalls a bit longer than normal.
I don't think I care much for the nylon insert in the gloves.  I would rather have just the leather and be able to feel the string a bit.  What do you all think?

Anyway, who uses a Hill Glove?  How do you like them?  How long did it take you to break the Deluxe or the Standard in where it was nice and comfy and didn't move on your fingers when you released the string?

If you have an extra in MEDIUM...maybe you can let me try it out.  Like a try it, before you buy it kinda deal....

Thanks all.

The NEET glove is kind of a hill style glove with extra long stalls.  Also the black widow stick tite glove would be one to look at.  Not really a hill style but it does have long stalls.

I have a Stick Tite glove, the base model, and it's a decent glove, but very different to me than a Hill style.  I never did warm up to those strips going between the fingers.
Also, my dog got it right after I got it and chewed one of the straps off on the index finger.  It still has one left though and is perfectly fine to shoot with.  I imagine it would be a lot more enjoyable if it were broken in.

I use the Hill glove.  Don't know if it's the deluxe or not.  I've had it for over 10 years I think.  I like the nylon inserts. Feel I get a cleaner release.  When I first got it I remember it felt like the stalls were going to fly off my fingers when I released.  I shortened it by restitching the wrist strap closer to the finger stalls.  That solved the problem for me.  If you like to feel the string you'll probably want something else though.

Gotcha.  Yeah I was just referencing gloves with longer stalls.  I sold a few gloves because the stalls were just too short.  Barely passed the first joint on the fingers.  I have found the remedy for me in both the NEET glove and the Black Widow PDQ glove.  Both had nice long stalls and plenty of protection while not losing out on string feel.  Great gloves.

Yeah I like a longer stall too.  The Damascus glove used to be my favorite and I would take it and snip the ends off of each finger and use it that way.  Worked great.

I have an idea that I am wanting to try with a Damascus glove.  With one of my old Damascus glove I took some of that nylon cardura material that I found on some piece of gear and Super Glued a piece of it to each end of the finger stalls.  Boy the release was really nice and the protection was incredible.  The bad thing is that the Super Glue got into the fabric and when it cured it made the material damn near hard as a rock and there were also parts that hardened and made jagged edges and such and made it uncomfortable.
Now I have some of that material that I bought from a fabric maker.  I have used it already on some tabs that I have made myself and it works great.  Takes some breaking in though.  I want to get a new glove and have someone sew it onto the ends of the fingers.  I figure I'm around all kinds of shops that fix shoes and leather boots so I should be able to find someone that would do it for me.
As soon as I find someone, I am going to have it done and see how it turns out.  Hopefully I can get someone that doesn't want an arm and a leg to do it.

In the meantime, I'd like to try one of these Hill gloves and see how close it comes to my idea of the perfect glove.

I use the Hill glove it's all leather and no inserts. I've had it for awhile. I like the fact that I can't feel the string and it rolls off my fingers. It may take a little to get use to. My glove still feels like it did when I bought it. I'm not sure there is a break in period its stiff. But that's why I like it.

I have 2 HH gloves with inserts and like them alot. It took some time to breakin because of needing the plastic to bend and form the groove where the stirng lays. Takes longer then other leather gloves to breakin but once grove is set you good. I feel with the inserts you get a cleaner loose then the ones without but if you prefer to realy feel the string then get the glove without inserts. Anotherthing you can do if you anchor on a tooth the HH gloves can be cut shorter so you finger tips are exposed. Just take lil of at a time because if you take to much off then in the trash it goes.

I like the Hill glove with my heavier bows, but prefer a thinner glove for most of my shooting. It did take longer to break the Hill glove in.

The Widow Stick Tite is a really nice glove for the money. Quality leather and breaks in to fit your fingers perfectly. I have thousands of shots on mine and it shows minimal wear.

Call Jason at HHA, he'll be happy to build you a deluxe glove with deeper stalls and no inserts.  All you have to do is ask, they're happy to help.

I just bought my second Hill Deluxe this year.  My first wore out after only 19 seasons of shooting 75-80# bows.  They just don't make good stuff anymore I guess. :)   If you are shooting light bows maybe the inserts are too much but for my bows they are perfect.

I shoot a #53 Border Griffon GL, 3d only.
Had this HH glove 1 year only, shot maybe 2x/week 2-300 shots/weeks. Glove didn't last, leather wore away so inserts poked through & started to affect my release. (i had modified the stalls by undoing the stitching at the fingertips by 1/8-1/4" to allow my fingers to fit without pinching.

I"ve enjoyed my Hill deluxe glove. I ordered it with the 1/4" longer stalls and am glad I did. I trimmed off the tips so that my finger tips are slightly exposed and the break in time was nothing exceptional. Fit is great after some modifications, but not everyone has the same size hands, so doing those doesn't bother me. I also shortened the straps and resewed it to the wrist strap so it fit tighter.
