Howdy Trad Gang!

Once again I refuse to participate in this annual commercialization circus over the Christmas season.  There will be no sales or other hype.  In fact I'm saying "nuts" to all of it and I am going to Kenny's tomorrow for a late season whitetail hunt.

Can't wait I'll be hunting with Jim Jones of Firefly and Steve Grice (jacob's ladder) of the gang here.  We had a great time and fantastic hunt last year and I know already it'll be a good one this year as well.

If you need anything that's just fine the site will be running but I won't get anything shipped out 'till I get back.  Hopefully by then I'll have a picture of a nice buck to share!

Thank you all for your consistent support over the years, we do appreciate it!

Well that was ominously accurate, I hit some black ice on a bridge on the way up and got a real scare.   :scared:

Had a happy ending though.

I am still on the hunt with the gang but I thought I'd post a quick update as I have some internet access for a bit.  We are definitely in deer (which we always seem to be at Kenny's) and everybody has seen at least one really good buck some have seen a lot more.   :D

Jim Jones picked up right where he left off last year and has a couple good bucks patterned already, if anybody is gonna tag a wall hanger my money is on him.

I clipped a doe the first night but she clotted up on me and got away.  I'm gonna be watching for her now as a matter of general principle ha ha.

We have been hampered a bit by near constant rain but that will be over tonight.  Then the game will  be on with intensity!

Having a great time as always, thanks Kenny!

Well we are off Kenny's place and back to reality.  What a nice relaxing escape his place is.

No other deer were taken other than the one Kenny posted here for us.  As mentioned that doe was taken by Jake Grice, Steve's (jacobs ladder) son.  Jake was a replacement for an unexpected vacancy on the hunt.  I didn't know what to expect but he turned out to be quite the young man.  At 21 he  works hard in construction framing buildings, has already run some crews and is a land owner to boot!  He will be building his own home on his land in the next few years.  Pretty impressive!  He was a great addition to the hunt and a pleasure to have around.  He also spots blood on the ground so quickly I took to calling him "Hawkeye" the first part of the hunt.  However I had to quickly replace that with "Killer" ha ha.

As for the doe, he took her on the ground at about 10 yards from an improvised blind using a pre-existing brush pile.  She actually came around the corner and surprised him, forcing him to sit like a statue as she stood only 5 yards away.  He let her pass, took advantage of her distraction elsewhere, drew and shot in one motion and put his arrow through her heart.  She piled up in the field 50 yards away.  For those interested in such things, Jake used a 41# Terry Folts take down longbow appropriately named "Jake's Bow", a CE Heritage shaft and Zwickey Eskalite 135 screw in broadhead.  Jakes got a long 30+ inch draw so he had plenty of steam and his arrow zipped right through the mature doe.

Jake did it all right and he seems a real natural.  He noticed on his first hunt many deer passing near a brush pile out in a field, so he went over and checked it out.  He quickly surmised a blind could be fashioned at the spot, he did exactly that and the next morning took his doe right there.

That was the only deer taken but it sure wasn't due to a lack of deer or excitement that is for sure.  I will try to share a few more tidbits in subsequent posts.

Next group going to Kenny's is gonna have a good time I will tell you that!
