Question, not sure where to ask
« on: December 01, 2015, 10:17:00 PM »
Please delete in not appropriate. I haven't shipped a bow for 5 or 6 years.  Can a person still mail a longbow for around $50 in the US?  I am not asking for an exact price, just wondering if shipping has significantly increased. It is a 60" one-piece longbow. Thanks for the info.

The cheapest way I've found is by US parcel post or priority mail. Sometimes they are really close in price. The key is to keep the total package dimensions under 85", length + width + height, example 64" long x 6" X 6" = 76" total. Shipping usually runs from $20-$40 depending on the zone. You can also save a few dollars by printing your shipping label online at USPS.com instead of going to the post office but you need to be reasonably accurate on your weight estimate.

I sent a bow USPS 2nd day. It went from Az. To CT. Got there in two days. Cost a little more than $40. That's twice as much as regular PP but did not get handled by everyone between here and there.

I'll give you another reply anyway Greg.  The best shipping container I have found for longbows is a carpet tube.  Most carpet stores or home improvement centers throw them away.  Some are heavier than others, but they make very good shopping containers that stay within the length limits easily.

Yep.  I agree on the carpet tube and the local dealer I get them from even cuts them to the size I want.   :)

What Whip said!  I just shipped a longbow to WI in a carpet tube for 30 bucks...Priority mail with insurance.

Greg- another first class act being displayed...  Not only gave a bow away; but is going the distance to ensure the lucky winner is going to get it in one piece.

Top notch Sir!
