Arrow nock question
« on: December 03, 2015, 10:46:00 PM »
I shoot 3 under.  I use 2 tied nock points and I conciously do not put my pointer finger against the arrow nock.  I put it just under the lower string nock.  I noticed when I draw my 58" bow to my 27" draw and slowly let down the the arrow actually slightly moves forward and in a sense comes out of the deep nock groove which means that when I am at full draw the arrow is slightly off the string and when I release the string probably pops back into the nock completely and then back out when the arrow comes off the string.  Following?  I leave a little more than a 1/16 of an inch between the bottom string nock and the bottom of the arrow nock.  The bareshafts fly fine and the fletched shafts fly fine but I find this peculiar.  Does this happen to anyone else or am I just nitpicking?  Is it a form issue or the manner in which I draw.  Is the string angle an issue?  I guess I'm over thinking it and dissecting too much but its bugging me.  It doesn't seem to happen as much or at all on my 64" bows and if I use tight nocks it doesnt happen either. But when I use my gold tips it does every single time.

Thanks,

Kevin

Does it do all of that or is it just that at the angle your string is at, at full draw, the wings from the nock catch the string and when it is let down ( not under the pressure of release) it stays on the wings, looking like it came partly off ?  Did that make sense ?

I'm not sure why it happens, but I firmly put preasure against the nock to make sure it doesn't happen.

Why do you "keep away"?

I've always figured its best not to press your index finger in the arrow nock and pinch the arrow into the top of the string nock.

And yes chuck C what you are saying is what is happening at full draw.  If doesnt do it until full draw I assume because Ive never had any issues with the arrow coming off during draw or anything like that.

Yup.... the string angle at full draw makes a difference. And how your arrow knocks fit the string determines how much they'll move. That's why you are not seeing it with your longer bows....

I like nice snug fitting nocks when string walking or dropping my tab below the lower nock... same thing... If you shove your tab up tight against the arrow nock and have a tight string angle you are putting the arrow into a bind at full draw technically.

Whether its enough to effect arrow flight depends on the string angle.

flight is good and the bow kills stuff so maybe I'm just worrying for nothing
