took a trip to the swamp
« on: December 05, 2015, 06:30:00 PM »
Me and my dad went to the swamp today to do a little deer/beaver scouting and squirrel hunting . Here's one of the house and dams.

Amazing little critters. Found 3 huts today and saw an otter. While poking around we found some unusual sign. Pigs have been spotted and killed in this area, do you think it's them or just deer?

Man that looks like a pretty sweet spot. And I don't think that trail gets much use. You should look for deer elsewhere.

Could definitely be rooting activity.

Good luck.

It looks like Jon is going to be making a new Otter quiver and a Beaver hat and gloves.  Good luck trapping it is a lot of fun when hunting season ends.

Hunting season never ends.   Great pictures . looks like pigs to me.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Not many fmscan but there's been a few.
Finkm1 this is in the midland area on some state land.
Furs not worth much this year but we were going to do some projects with the beaver and muskrat just for home use and to get out and enjoy the woods

A good day in the woods for sure!!
The second pic of the rooting might be hogs. The others look like armadillo to me. Especially the first pic of rooting. The 2 small impressions is a dead giveaway.

I'm an hour or so south of Midland, no wild pigs down here. My brother in law is a Taxidermist and a trapper. He use to make beaver hoops to hang on the wall. Worked out good when the fur prices were down.
