Who switched to lefty?
« on: December 14, 2015, 11:01:00 AM »
Who switched to left handed for whatever reason and wished they hadn't ?

I am left eye dominate and have contemplated this change for a long time.  After shooting 40 years right handed I cannot change to a more discipline way of shooting. Would making the switch give me a fresh start or would my old ways follow me?  I don't want to waste a year to see that i should have just stayed right hand.  As always fellers thanks for the input. ...........Ray

This question has been coming up quite a bit lately...my tagline says where I am at on the subject...the fact is everyone is different and the only way to tell is to try it...Fred Bear and Glenn St. Charles are a couple of notable bowhunters who did it...and I doubt they asked anyone before they tried the switch

One of the things Dave has mentioned in previous threads that cannot be overstated is how being able to shoot both ways allows you to alternate your practice days and balance out the conditioning while also giving muscle groups a day off to rest. I makes a difference once you qualify for that senior coffee.

After 50 years of shooting lefty, it took me about 4 months of shooting righty to get where it comes natural, working my way up from 25 to 60 lb bows, then I started consciously alternating between sides. Now I have to stop and look at what bow I grabbed to remind myself what side I'm shooting, as they both come natural and my brain just knows, from practice,  where to aim.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

I know Dragonheart switched, and is now shooting pretty heavy bows left handed. He switched due to a medical issue, but still made it work for him.

Good luck with it, Ray!

years ago i was in the same situation, i knew i needed to switch but resisted because i had too much money into right handed bows but when i hit a deer in the guts rather than in the heart i knew it was time and i haven't looked back since then.

Ray,

I switched due to TP and cramping in my right hand at full draw that was involuntary (focal dystonia).  It has been about 2.5 yrs or so since I started tinkering with LH.  I could not load an arrow and looked like a real cluster trying to shoot.  Now I have no issues and shoot fluid and smooth instinctive shot LH.  It is a journey.  I finally accepted that I needed to switch and I got more serious about it.  If you want more info.  PM me, we can talk.

Just one tip I will pass along...if your armguard and your tab or glove are on the same side you need to switch one or the other
