Riser quiver inserts on Silvertip
« on: December 15, 2015, 04:55:00 PM »
Please don't rake me over the coals too bad for wanting to deface the riser of 2 recently aquired beautiful Silvertips.

I am forced with a decision.  I want a bow quiver on my bows but am not to fond of a strap on quiver look on a recurve.  Longbow fine but recurve is a no go for me.  Soooooo...1 is a takedown with antler limb bolts.  Does a great Northern bracket fit under the burr?  Second bow is a 1 piece, how hard is it to put your own riser inserts in.

Inserts get a bad rap because once in it's them or filled holes upon removal. I wouldn't hesitate to do it if that's the kind of quiver I wanted. If I had a Tip it would always be mine so what a potential buyer thought wouldn't factor in. As far as installation either template with bracket or measure and mark with fine tip marker and drill with nothing other than a brad point bit w/stop.

 Detailed Description from Kustom King

Includes 2 brass bushing with both 2 cap screws and 2 flathead screws. Requires drilling of riser to install. Use with 5/16" or letter "N" drill size. Complete instructions included. 10 x 24 screw thread size.

I hear ya!! No rubber straps for me, but when inserts are added Dave W.  does mine. The thought of me drilling on one of my silvertips is scary    :help:

Both of mine have them. I had Dave put them in when he made them.

In my experience the great northern bracket won't work with the antler burr knobs. I have seen some modifications to make them work and maybe someone who has done it will post.

There are other options that will fit under the knobs. Thunderhorn and Selway come to mind. Good luck with your search.

I would bet money the GN brackets will not work under antler burrs.

Can't answer the 2nd question because I have never done it.

I say do what you want, and don't worry what anyone else thinks about it. It is your bow, and if you like it that way, then by all means do it!

Man, there is going to be a case of the "tight cheeks" if I drill into this thing myself.  I'll just have my dad put it on the drill press

That's your best bet. Set the depth and use the correct bit....you'll be fine. I would send a pic to the bowyer of where I wanted the inserts to get his approval.

I had Dave extend the limb bolts on two of my risers so the Great Northern quiver fits under the limb bolts.  Works great on both risers.

If you do your own, use a drill press for sure to get the holes drilled straight.  Good idea to also use a tap and die.  Trying to start the threads of the insert on very hard wood often chips it out.  I've seen a number of real hatchet jobs over the years.  Good luck.

I would send it in. Used a selway limb bolt for a fews years, then broke down and had the inserts installed to use a kwikee quiver. Been using a tightspot quiver lately, not traditional looking but the dang thing just works....best bow quiver I've used.

I agree.  If you want a riser mount quiver, have them installed.

Quivers, just like bows, are a very personal choice.  Go with what you like or want.

My preference, far and away, is riser mount.
