Deep Impact Arrows
«
on:

Anyone tried these? A well known Bowyer introduced these to me. He said they were darn near as indestructible as a carbon arrow can be with the outsert. I'm giving them a go and have them tuned real nice with some 8-32 brass thread glued up behind the nock to up the weight.
Picture shows all 400 spined-Gold Tip trad- Axis trad- Deep Impact. Also the pic with the footing, I have it set to show the depth it covers the shaft.

I used to use them on my wheel bow, no experience with the ultra slim diameter shafts on my trad bows.
I thought they were very durable, never stump shot but had good success on animals. Fairly high gpi for a carbon as well which is nice

I haven't found a single outserts I trust however. They either bend way too easily, can't be installed properly or don't spin no matter how you turn them.
Which outserts are you trying?

I'm using the Black Eagle brand outsert. So far the shaft hasn't required sanding to install. They all spin test true after gluing them on. The Firenock brand outsert was used on the test arrow that I was introduced to. It seemed to hold up to rigorous stump shooting. Both brand outserts are 7075 aluminum. The Black Eagle covers about 3/8" more shaft.

Is that a new production arrow? They made carbons like that 20-25 years ago, back when I was a kid. My dad shot them on his compound. If I remember correctly, his were Brownings made by Beaman. The markings got worn off over the years. He quit using them because he couldn't get the outsert a or nocks to fit them anymore. I got a new lower poundage bow in early 2014 and none of my arrows would tune with it. I dug 11 of these out of my dad's hunting closet. They are technically over spined, but the narrow diameter moves them closer to center and allows them to tune well with the lower draw weight. When I got my longbow this spring, they tuned well with it as well. I managed to find one package of nocks and one package of outsert buried at a little hole in the wall bow shop. If somebody is making them again, maybe the new hardware will work with my shafts. Here's mine with my longbow. By the way, I haven't shot an animal with them, but my dad killed quite a few with these arrows off a mid 1980s compound. I don't know that he ever busted a shaft other than a couple Robin Hoods.

It's a new production arrow. Not sure if it's a rehash on an old design or not. Black Eagle makes them also I know of another brand, Widow Maker, who make the micro diameter shafts also requiring outserts. Black Eagle and Firenock make the outserts.

Thanks. I'll have to look them up and see if they're they same diameter. Might get a little more life out of these if I can get replacement nocks and such. Probably won't be this lucky, but it'd be nice if the gpi was close and they'd tune the same. I only have 10 left so it'd be nice to be able to add to them.

There are several micro diameter arrows nowdays, Black Eagle makes the Deep Impacts also Victory makes VAPs and Easton makes their Injection series. All use a different insert/halfout/outsert point system. The ID of these arrows run .165-.1665 depending on brand. There are others but these seem to be the three popular selections.

Been shooting the widow maker smash arrows for a while and like them. Only bad thing is .350 is the weakest spine they come in, fortunately they work for me full length and they are tough.

I carry the Black Eagle line of arrow shafts at Simply Traditional and have found all of their models to be extremely tough. I have put them through car doors, 55 gallon drums, 3/4" plywood and one through a 4" maple from a 85# longbow and they just keep asking for more.
I have been hunting with the "Outlaw" shafts for the past year and they have taken everything I could throw at them and more. I am really excited about the new "Vintage" shaft that is due out any day now. I have not spent a lot of time with the Deep Impact but I have sold a few dozen and customers who have bought them love them. I am just not into the smaller diameter arrows. Mostly because I weight my personal arrows and the smaller diameter makes that difficult.
