rain gear
« on: December 31, 2015, 03:58:00 PM »
This year I spent my hunting budget on cold weather gear.  Nice boots and lots of Asbell wool.  Of course that brought on lots of warm, even hot weather and lots of rain.  So for next year what is everyone's favorite wet weather gear?  Thanks

My first thought is; why do you need all that cold weather gear in NC?

But I never hunted there so what do I know?

I got a set of Frog Togs at bass pro and have Used them for three seasons now and have been kept dry.  They seemed to fall in the mid price range.  Can't say for sure about durability because they don't get used much.

Cabelas MT050 - I e had great luck with it.  It's quiet and has kept me dry.  I wasn't a huge fan of their "rain suede."

We sure didn't this year.  Usually we are all over the place.  I figured on some cold morning sits in the 20's.  Had maybe two this year.

My fiancee got me a Sitka Downpour suit for Christmas that I think I'm really going to like. Lightweight and somewhat fitted, I think it's going to be ideal for the early to mid bow season in wet weather.  The sitka gear is not cheap stuff, especially with Goretex, but it's nice.

I am going to go ahead a give another "nod" for Kuiu... Sitka makes some nice stuff as well. I really like the Merino Wool from First-Lite but I have yet to try any of their rain gear. Good luck!

Here's another vote for Cabelas Rain Suede, cry good stuff and if you watch the sales you can get it for about $50 off the normal price.

Has anybody found that their rain gear is too noisy? Or does it not seem to matter much when the rain is really falling down? I have an Army surplus rain parka from my father that I have not used yet but just by looking at it I would think it would be extremely loud as the rain hit it.

I have some light weight Rivers West I bought quite a few years ago.  Quiet and keeps the water out.  Don't know if they're still made.

If your on a budget, space rain from cabelas, kuiu variations if not. Kuiu has different weights. I have chugach and the NX but I would probably go with the Yukon for Alaska.
Why do you need all that cold weather gear for NC. Interesting, I keep a weather app on my favorite places, two are in Colorado. We are always just a little colder than Colorado but we do not have that nice  dry air. I keep it for my wife that says Colorado is too cold for her.
