Below is what I wrote last year regarding Barry's Bootcamp. With another year of implmenting things learned from him I'll still think it was the best investment I ever made for whitetails hunting.
I attended one of Barry's boot camps three years back, it was the best investment I have made regarding whitetail hunting. First off, if I had not learned anything new about whitetail hunting, being in the same room with Barry for three days was worth the cost. There were numerous times we were laughing so hard it hurt. That said, these bucks were both a direct result two little bits of wisdom, you know, minor details shared during the bootcamp. These are not monster bucks like Barry and Gene persue every year, but they are representative of the top 10% of bucks for the area we hunt.
Hunter took this buck because Barry made the comment, if you really believe you have your stand in the best tree then leave it there, even if it hasn't paid off. We left the stand in the same tree we had picked several years before instead of moving it over the summer as planned; figured we should give it one more year.
I took this buck because I changed my entry route to our best producing stand. During one of Barry's field excursions we walked in a creek from the last stand to the trucks and Barry mentioned he used the creek to help with scent control. I immediately slapped myself on the head while muttering under my breath, Walt you are such an idiot.
Looking over at my bookshelf, the are over fifty books on whitetail hunting, I have read all of them at least once. I have lost count of how many times I have read the books by Barry, Gene, and Rodger. Let's just say the bootcamp isn't a replacement for the knowledge contained within the covers of the books those three men have written, but it did help clarify most of my questions. Even more important, it answered questions I wasn't smart enough to ask. Let's just say I might be a little dense at times, I had quite a few of those head slapping moments.
If you have been thinking about attending, Just Do It.
