Bear Mag Takedown Advice / Opinion Needed
« on: January 13, 2016, 10:05:00 AM »
Hello all..

I have a Series 1 Bear B Mag Riser.

The original flocked finish is rough, but not gooey. Checking around close to where I live the cheapest powder coat job was $95 for a basic flat powder coat.

I'd like your opinions on this. The finish is rough, but still covers 95% of the riser. I know magnesium takedowns aren't the most highly sought after, but being that this a Series 1 with a 3 digit serial I don't want to ruin the value of it.

Should I refinish it? Is powder coating the way to go? Where can I get it re-flocked?

Advice and opinions are greatly appreciated. I almost wish I would have held out for a wooden takedown riser now, things would be much less complicated.
Archery and photography are similar in that the result of the shot depends less on the equipment and more on the operator - Me

Strip it and paint it. You won't have much involved money wise and if you don't like the color it is easy to change. The mag risers are highly sought after and are very reasonable to get in to. They offer you the ability to easily change grips (low, medium or high wrist). The sight window has an adjustment to set windage to where you like it and tune it to your arrows. Finally you have your choice of three different bow lengths. They are very easy to make whisper quiet to shoot. It is a good everyday using bow. If you had a wooden handle you wouldn't have 2 of the 3 things I just mentioned. Plus you'd be short several hundred dollars. Enjoy the bow you have, it is a good one, Fred made them to be used and enjoyed.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

do you want to retain value as a collector item?  If so some of the die hards will say dont refinish.

If you want a hardcore hunting bow I'd go with the previous poster's advice.  another idea is to see if you can have it "camo dipped". I'm not sure who does it anymore but just because it says camo dip doesn't mean they dont have 100's of patterns available.
Relax,

You'll live longer!
