Rattling at the string grooves..
« on: January 13, 2016, 06:41:00 PM »
I just got a new(to me) bow in the mail and I noticed bow, when I pluck the string, has a little twang or noise coming from the string grooves.  Where you would usually pluck the string and head a thump(from an all wood bow), this one has a little rattling sound, instead.

Any ideas?  low brace height?  waxy loops?

yes it is a take down, but i know the noise is coming from the string groove area on the top and bottom of the bow.

Loose fur silencers will do that. Odds are its probably where the string leaves the body of the bow. Put a bit of mole skin under the string on the belly of the bow. Dyneema strings are much harder than B50, IMO, as a result they transmit noise softer strings wont make audible to us.

I have one bow that will do that when the brace height is too high...with most bows I tend to brace on the high side because I have a long draw and consequently power stroke...with that particular bow it makes that sort of noise and I needed to take a few twists out of the string

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

.. it actually has some type of fur silencers on the bow.. that has to be it.  I have already put a new string on it, but I bet that was it!

Could be bow string wax sticking a bit.

If the string is not quite lined up in the string groove, there can be a little rattle in the limb tips when you shoot. If the string is not running straight down the limb groove, try twisting your limb a little to line the string up.

I vote for Loose silencers. Happened to me more than once.
