It just doesn't come close...
« on: January 14, 2016, 12:49:00 PM »
Yesterday I decided to shoot my compound and my recurve. I shot my compound first for about 20 minutes and while it is a fascinating piece of technology that has it's uniqueness it was no match for the flight of the arrow from my recurve. The arrow was much faster from the wheel bow but it wasn't as pretty on it's way to the target. The recurve was just so smooth and quiet and just as deadly as the compound.

You just have to believe in its effectiveness. Have been around for centuries and they have stood the test of time-where will the wheels be in the same time frame.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

I never liked the let off of a compound bow even when it was my go to hunting instrument. Something about the let off just didn't feel right. I even sent my PSE Nova back to PSE to get the cams changed to wheels to see if I liked that better and shot off the shelf but nothing helped...until I got a trad bow. my first was a recurve. I love the feel of the constantly increasing draw weight, the soft release and the lightness and warmth of a classic traditional bow.

I love watching feathers fly in a spiral through the air. I also had a lot of trouble with all the gadgets on a compound. I traded mine for a 24 pack of beer and a hog hindquarter a several years ago and never looked back.

My buddy still shoots that old compound and he does so very well, He has made lots of meat with it. I am glad its getting used, I am also glad I discovered Trad bows.

I love to shoot long shots (at targets only) and watch the flight pattern. Nothing better.

I took my wheel bow out of storage about 6 weeks ago and shot a for a little while.  Within 15 minutes I was shooting tennis ball sized groups at all ranges, then the peep sight broke...  It's a good bow, so I put it back in the case, being saved for a rainy day.  Too much gadgetry.
