Can Too Much String Twist Damage A Bow?

Calling all of you string experts, i know we have several. I am a newbie string builder, and have built a b55 string for my new to me 62 Grizzly.

 I have a proffesional b55 on the way from 10ringstrings for it, but i am heading on a pretty rough hunt here in a couple of weeks and i thought id make a backup. Problem is, somehow it came out a little long, and to get the right brace i had to put alot more twist than i normally do. My question is would this string hurt the bow? If it will i can make another one, but if i am just thinking too much il just got ahead and finish it out. The string is a 16 strand b55 padded out to 20 strands on the loops.

Dalton, it probably won't hurt anything but I would just build another one if I was you.

Wont hurt the bow, but will have a tough time maintaining brace height.  It will tend to stretch a lot on the bow.  Don't really have to make another string.  Can untwist this one and untwist one loop and retwist it a little shorter.  Be sure to get all the strands untwisted and then counter twist about 12 turns before you retwist the end loop.

Not to hijack the thread, but how do you pad a  string?

On a Flemish string, you just add a few short strands ( 9 inches or so) to the end of each bundle before braiding the loop. On an endless string, you just add the appropriate number of strands to the area that will become the loop and wrap them in with the serving thread.

Like Orion says, just undue and shorten the length! Start the loop about 1\\2" longer.

As long as you haven't served it or put it under tension.

Like anything made or manufactured, virgin material is best!

OK, I have to ask......why would you pad the loops on a B-55 string??? That's a replacement for B-50 and good for older bows. Just curious!!!!

Thanks for the help guys! Allen, i took your advice and just made a new one, it came out perfect.

And i just padded it because it looks cleaner to me and that extra padding puts my mind at ease on those tips. Another trick that Allen explained to me!

Won't hurt the bow, but way excessive twist can cause the string to wear prematurely.

No need to pad the loops with B-55.  16 strands will handle 80# draw.  It can be tricky getting a decent nock fit when the string gets that big.

Yep.  What LBR says.  I explained how to do it, but I wouldn't do it with a 16 strand B 50 string.  Whatever floats your boat.
