Went stumping today in preparation of hog hunting with Irv this month. After 14" of snow last week, it was good to get out in the woods.

My neighbor has no respect for the property that was left to him by late relatives. The only upside is that it provides extra targets for me. Beer cans and plastic containers are abundant.

This stump made it easy to imagine I was shooting a hog. I was happy with the 35 or so yards uphill shot.

Even with a forest floor with all the drab winter colors offers plentiful light and dark leaves that make for great practice.

Thanks.

At my first shot at this "pig", I shot low and saw sparks fly.

Closer inspection revealed what I had glanced off of. I sure like to foot my GTs with aluminum.

Found this nice rub. If you look closely above my upper limb tip you can see the ladder of one of my stands.

My last two shots were at a mound of dirt around the roots of a blow down. After the first shot, I said to myself, "split that nock".

If I keep shooting like this, I'll be ready to stick a piggy.

Thanks for coming along.

Good shooting.....Heading to see Irv next week   ;)   Having been there before I would encourage you to make sure your practicing your close shooting too. I had encounters with boars each evening I sat last year and all were under 10 yards!!!!!     :saywhat:

Like Yohon said, Practice your 7-10 yard shots. Ten yards is actually a far shot at our spots:)

Wayne,

that is some good shooting.  So what you need to do is imagine the hog is actually a stump and you should be fine.   ;)

Wayne,

Thanks for sharing the great photos.

Looks like you are making some good shots.

We are having great success on hogs this year despite the cool rainy weather.

Rubber boots are a must and if you can bring a FWD vehicle or an AWD one with a little ground clearance, it is best.

Of course my FWD Chevy pickup is here too.

Had some guys rent a Dodge Journey and it worked perfectly.

The pigs and I are awaiting your arrival.
