Skunked by squirrels
« on: February 29, 2016, 02:46:00 AM »
Managed to get some alone time yesterday and took to the woods in search of squirrels. My strategy was simple.. Go to my deer spots and sit.. Soon enough they would show up .

I wasn't fully camouflaged and was definitely barked at more than normal. However within 15 minutes of setting still. One began barking at me from about 45 feet up in the tree above my head...

Took time .. Aimed CONTACT!!bonly it was with the branch he was sitting on vs him.. Arrow did break his perch and he fell... But quickly got up and ran off before I could knock another arrow...

Saw about 10 more before the sun set, however they were all 60 + yds away
Sunset

Tomorrow is the last day of season and maybe I won't get skunked...

It was the last day here for me yesterday.  The squirrels sure made me look like a  fool the past month.  They sure do get skiddish and wary later in the year.
Relax,

Squirrels can be funny fellows. When deer hunting I have had them get in the stand with me (in my lap, even) and have been peed on. They are all over the place. But when you are hunting them, they get scarce.

You had action anyways. If you go where you saw the other 10, you'll sit there with a good attitude. Attitude is everything.

I would bet you belong to a very exclusive club Sam. Probably the only member.

highlow, there is one more member of the club. My son was in the stand with me. It was the first time I took him hunting with me. So I guess you could say his entry into hunting was duly christened.

Thanks for sharing. One thing is if you hunt deer you the squirrels are. They are right around your stand making so much noise. But they are fun to watch.
