I'd rather be lucky than good any day
« on: October 19, 2007, 09:41:00 AM »
Hey Guys, been a while since I posted anything but I just had to let ya'll know I got my first trad kill. I was on vacation the second week of October and my wife and I decided to make an evening hunt ( yea she shoots a longbow too ). We got on our stands about 6:00 o'clock. At a quarter to seven I had two does come out within 15 yds. Its kinda a trick to catch two does not looking at the same time. But I finally got my shot. To my suprise the deer I was shooting at hit the ground dead as a hammer. Taking a closer look I found that I had hit her in the head in front of her ear. I've never shot a deer with a rifle that died any quicker. I thought I was shooting for the front shoulder. Talking to my brother-in-law he explained that I might have been concentrating so hard on the deer not seeing me draw ( looking a the head ) that I might have subconciously shot at her head. Anyway it was a very short tracking job. Has anyone ever had this to happen to them.

I shot high on one last year and severed the spine and it dropped instantly. Have never head shot one.

Congrats on your first. Now where are the pics?

Yeah a few years ago I had a doe drop and whirl and caught her behind the ear angling forward and she dropped like a rock. My arrow went where I was picking a spot behind her front leg . she dropped into the arrow path  :biglaugh:

A few years ago I was watching a 6 pointer go by me. I figured I would draw my bow as he went behind the up turned roots of a tree that had blown over. I am watching his eye for my clue to draw only his eye never went out of sight and I drew and shot hitting just under his eye and cutting his jugular. The area looked like someone had painted it red. Like they say when luck is with you, s--t will do for brains.
