Fixin to Order Sitka Gear
« on: October 19, 2007, 03:26:00 PM »
Folks for any of you who have ordered this stuff how did the sizes run.  I went and got measured and measured a 44 coat and 38 waist line.  I wear a 36/34 blue jean.  Also the undergarments.  Do they fit snugg or loose if ordering by the size you are.  Also, do you like the stuff.  I sure hope it is worth the rave.  I have sold a whole array of pretty darn good array of proven fleece and wool.  Initial order is going to be the 90% jacket and pants, mountain pants, and mountain shirt.

Adam, I have been using the Sitka gear and it is awsome, Very light weight but very warm. The 90% jacket has shed the water all week with no problem.

As far as sizes go they are close but a little snug, You will need a xlarge jacket and large pants. Everybody is different depending on what you were under it.

Adam, I wear a 36" waist pant. I got the XL thinking I wanted them a little roomy...mistake! They were way too roomy. Had to return them for the Large. You definitely want the XL in the jacket. I got the same stuff you thinking of ordering. I am very happy with it. I got the Down Pour tops and bottoms too. I like the way they put zippers in to allow air circulation.

I really like the pants. The cargo pockets are zippered so you don't lose stuff. They have a rubberized waistband inside to keep your shirt tail in and suspender loops too.
The shirts do run a little on the small side. As Tracy said, they run a little snug.

I wear a 34/32 wrangler relaxed fit and 90% large pant fits about right with some long underwear, a little long but not bad. Mountain shirt and timberline vest were XL but the 90% jacket was a definite XXL. I have wore the pants and mountain shirt a couple of times on 40 degree days and they worked well. Can't wait for some cooler weather to try it all out.

I tell everyone that orders from me to order the size that they normally wear. They've had size issues in the past, but that seems to be behind them now. With a 44" chest I'd recommend a large 90% jacket and mountain shirt and a XL in the 90% pants and a 38" in the mountain pants.

Good luck with your purchase, and I think you'll be very happy.

Good stuff- great for moving and early to mid-season-not so great for standing still in cold weather.

I found some in a store and tried them for fit, they fit just the same as my other clothes. I like my vests to fit a bit snug and will order it a size smaller than the jacket.
To answer your question (is it worth the rave?) For performance fabrics in good camo I think it looks real good, lightweight, tough and quick to dry. The other clothing I use for backpack hunting works well but I spent hours cutting it apart and tailoring it to be functional in the mountains, installing pit zips and a lot of other alterations, Sitka gear is the closest I've ever seen to the clothing I spent months making and of course looks professionally built instead of hacked together.

one other quick note, don't overlook the hat and gloves if your using this for backpacking. I never have found a camo beany that matches my non camo stuff in fit and fabric performance. This stuff looks like it will.

I just recently bought the Beany, and wore it on my last Hunt, I love it...
The real test for it will be on the Beaver hunts Nov - Mar....
