Arrow testing????

OK crew, I got the itch to try different arrow setup - nothing is broke but I like to tinker.

64" Schafer silvertip 55#@28" and a 64" Schafer silvertip 60@28" also 64" identical bows.  

I always shoot 29.25" axis 400s with 200 - 260 grains up front and they fly great - shot those since axis arrows came out.

I got some 340 axis I want to cut them same length - have not might have to stay full length.

to get them to fly proper spine and all I am thinking LOTSA up front weight??

My problem is I dont want to glue in the inserts until I get a chance to play with different weight up front. How do yall shoot without glueing in the inserts??????????


Long post - but appreciate ideas? take a "shot" at what the weight will have to be. Might not be achievable to get the to fly? but will be fun trying!!!!!

Try wrapping a sandwich bag around insert and pushing it in the shaft, then cut off excess.

I personally glue one in and cut from the nock end but you can use Insert Iron or Big Jims hot melt glue and both are heat reversible.

Use the Quick Stick hot melt from Big Jims Bow Co. It is the best insert glue made, and you can get inserts out anytime you want to! I have been using it in my FMJs with the HIT inserts for a while and have not lost a single insert.

I've done it both ways, but I'm leaning toward rraming's idea with one twist.

I reverse the arrow, insert the nock in what would normally be the front end of the arrow and glue (hot melt) the insert in the "trademark/crested end of the arrow. The nock is easy to pull if I want to shorten the arrow. Once I get the arrow flying the way I want it and I'm all done cutting, I reverse the nock end and still have the cresting the same distance from the nock as it would normally be.

With the low-temp hot melt I'm now using from Big Jim, pulling the insert is no big deal, but why bother when the nock pulls so much easier.

Yeah use the blue low heat stick glue designed for carbons

plumbers Teflon tape wrapped around insert, usually 2 wraps and it will stay in for testing and you can pull it back out by the point with pliers easily
