SO last night I was in my most productive spot of this year. I have had several 10 yard and less encounters in this spot just haven't had the right one yet. Last night I was just going to take whatever legal deer gave me a chance and put some meat in the freezer since this is the last week and my son is getting his tonsils and adenoids out Thursday and I may lose next weekend.
On walking in late in the afternoon I walk into a doe before I get 30 yards from the truck. This is real early for them to be into the apples and I am just hoping I haven't ruined the spot for the evening. I have nothing to lose really so I walk the rest if the way in and take my seat on my bucket.
About 45 minutes before dark a young doe comes out of the corn on the side of the field away from me and walks into the cover of the apple trees and proceeds to chow down. About 5 minutes later a larger doe walks out and starts feeding under a tree about 30 yards in front of me working closer towards me at slight angle. She stops at 25 yards and turns broadside for me. Time to fill the freezer.
As she turns a quartering away slightly I see a glint that causes me to pause. I'm going to have to watch this "girl" for a few minutes. A horse lets out a loud whinny in the field behind me and my chosen target faces me head on and there it is! This "girl" has an ivory colored 4 inch straight along the ear spike. A unicorn!
Good thing I didn't shoot, I don't have a unicorn tag! (bucks have to have at least 2 points on one side here to be legal)
