I notice when i go out shooting my longer shots 30- 40 yards are impaxcting left of where im looking, anything closer is right on the money, does anyone know what can be causing this?
thank you

Several things, arrow tuning, open stance, a tiny fraction off course at the bow is a large amount off the farther and farther the arrow gets from the bow

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

David is 100% correct, it could be any number of things. Something I found to be very helpful is to have someone video me while shooting, makes it very easy to diagnose shooting flaws I never realized I had!!
focusing on the problem is not a solution-anonymous

what would make an open stance contribute to this?
aim small miss small

katman

Bow arm recoiling to the left on loose in response to not so great bone alignment and to much muscle control.
shoot straight shoot often

Bowwild

Could be lots of things as stated above. When I'm shooting RIGHT (I'm a lefty) I need to remember to "paint my face" when I relax my draw hand to release the string. This means the draw hand recoils along my face towards my drawing shoulder.

I'm assuming you are a RH shooter which means "left" would be the group direction if followthrough needs to be in better alignment with the string and shoulder.

Notice I make no reference to what I did "wrong", only what I should do correctly next shot.

Sometimes it is simply a tuning problem that doesn't show up at closer distances. But in my experience, such tuning inaccuracies will show up ate 10-13 yards and definitely long before I get out to longer distances.

BAK

I find that when it happens to me, and it occasionally does, it's because I'm not getting a good tight anchor, hence not getting my eye over the arrow.

Open stance in general won't throw you off IF your torso is perpendicular with arrow path, just easier to line up without thinking about it if your feet are perpendicular to arrow path!

Could be something as simple as "peeking". You know, move your head to left to watch arrow fly. I am guilty of doing this.

Me too especially if I'm trying to tune arrows;-)

Very true old goat, shoulder alignment is important. I responded to OP asking if he was open what could happen.

Left shots for me can come from bow arm collapsing, shoulders not aligned(these usually go together with me), torquing the bow with to much pressure on right side of grip(getting tired) or twisting head to right which moves anchor point(also comes with nose slap, ouch)

i think i am peeking at the arow will this cause it to go right as well? It seems when i really hunker down and keep my anchor at hold and hold it after its alot better. make sense?
aim small miss small

Mr. fingers

Keep your draw elbow in line with the arrow and the target.
