Hey all.

I was browsing the Lancaster pages the other night and came upon their new bows and ILF gear.  They gave a new bow that looks great, the Black Wolf Recurve.  It's an all carbon riser with all carbon limbs.  You can imagine the performance in this setup.

I don't keep up with all the latest risers and bows and ILF gear.  I'd like to hear what you all think of this bow.  Is it something you'd be interested in or not?  Why?

What other bows and ILF risers have been introduced lately that you have an eye on?
If you have one of these Black Wolf recurves, how about posting some pics and your thoughts?

Thanks for your time.

I forgot, here's a link to the setup I'm talking about.  Check it out and tell what you think.

It's a nice setup but if you want to shoot off the shelf you'll have to make your own built up strike plate. Of course you could just install a bear weather rest on it.

The riser itself is light and the grip is really good. It points well and has a nice balanced feel to it. With a Kanati pro angle on the bow it has a perfect mass weight,

I can't comment on the limbs because I just have the riser. I'm shooting the riser with w&w inno ex power limbs.

I watched the video from Lancaster on the Black Wolf also and Merlin's Adventure. On the Merlin's site Jim shot the bow and gave it a good review.

He also shot it through a crono and I believe the bow was 35# @28" with a 404gr. arrows. He pulled 27.5" and I believe it was 160+ fps.

I also asked about this bow on another site and got a few replies with all good but one guy said I should try before I buy.

Nala,

Just a few weeks ago I wrote a complete review of the Black Wolf in the Product Reviews Forum here.

 http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=001365

The net is, this is an exceedingly stabile, very fast shooting, quiet bow.  By the way, the limbs are not ALL carbon.  The laminations are carbon, the cores are maple.  Quality all around is impeccable.

This bow is designed to shoot off the shelf or with an elevated rest (it has a plunger hole drilled).  I installed a Bear Rug Rest and sideplate with a piece of Q-tip shaft behind it to move the arrow out to near center. Not hard at all.

A couple of people have mentioned having to make their own side plate. I purchased a Black Wolf from Lancaster about two months ago and my bow came supplied with a stick on side plate to automatically give me the correct amount of center shot. I assume this was supplied by Win & Win and not Lancaster. The bow is a nice shooter. The only things I would change are a larger grip to fit a man's hand, quiver bushings, and I would prefer foam core limbs to the wood core supplied.

I sure would like to have one.  Really nice setup.  I might have to put my Morrison 17" aluminum riser up far sale and get one of the risers.  How do you think the riser would do with a set of standard ILF limbs that didn't cost $450 per set?
You know I've wanted a Bear TD for the longest time and now this carbon setup shows up on my radar.  It is more expensive than a Bear TD I believe.  Maybe I'll just wait and get a used one when someone gets tired of theirs.
So many wonderful bows to pick from.

You ask about putting standard ILF limbs on this riser to keep the cost down. Let me ask you this. Would you build a sports car and then put a lawn mower engine in it? Limbs are the heart and soul of any bow, I wouldn't skimp here. If you down grade the limbs you'll have the same bow you are shooting now, just a different looking riser.

That's what I was thinking right after I posted that.  I would probably be better off going the other way if I wanted more performance, put the Black Wolf limbs on my Morrison 17".

Pretty much no way around it, if you want the performance and characteristics that bow offers, you have to have the whole SYSTEM, not just 1/2 of it.

Sure is a nice setup though.
