Drew Iowa! Let the Games Begin!!
« on: July 07, 2016, 03:33:00 PM »
Well I have not hunted Iowa since 2008, 3 kids later and lots and lots of arrows I figured I should put my name back in the hat and get on with it. I mean after all mom should be able to handle them for an extended time with me away now right, LOL.
Anyway I can't wait I lived out there back in early 2000's and shot some brutes. Plan to head out a few days early to do some scouting and see what has changed through the years. Do a little early season staging area hunting and get ready for the rut!
I have been working on a new hunting chair creation and plan to use it to hunt river bottoms with rattling being my key to getting bucks spitting close which is the way I like it. Even got a kayak for getting away from the crowds here in Michigan and may bring it with to slip in the back door on some Iowa monster non typical!

This is my biggest "bow" buck from Iowa, hunted allot with the black powder back then too, used to hunt everyday almost the whole season! Life before kids and wife, LOL.

Great buck!  Nice kayak too.  I bought a jackson Big Tuna last year and absolutely love it!  I've been wanting to put together a float hunt somewhere up north this year.  As for Iowa, I love hunting there.  I grew up in Cedar Falls and used to go back nearly every year to hunt until my farmer/friend passed away and his land was divided and sold on whitetail properties.  Last year I gained permission to hunt an 1800 acre farm in the south central part of the state.  I put in for a point the last two years and hope to draw next year.  Tags are harder to draw in that unit than the unit I was hunting in the north central part.  Good luck and I look forward to hearing the story of your hunt!  BTW, the string tracker I bought from you at K'Zoo worked great on my turkey hunt this spring!

Fling Blade,
That  Big tuna kayak looks awesome close to the same specs as mine but the dual seat option would be great.  I'm hunting all public property in Iowa unless you count little 10 acre piece right in the middle.  I drew with two points.  Glad the string tracker worked out well I didn't end up getting a bird myself.  Open applications for fall turkey is starting today!  Need to get a bird for turkey day.

Congrats...

I drew Iowa too along with Joe Lasch "Whip" and a couple of other PBS'ers.  It's been 5 years for me to get back.  Last Iowa buck was a 12 pt.  Just hoping to see some nice bucks...tippit

Zone 7 is a little north of where I hunt.  I have a few spots farther south, but don't hunt up that way.  Best of luck to you! I do work in Iowa City and live in Mt Pleasant and if there is anything I can do, all you need to do is ask.  I have flashlights and a deer cart and willing to help out if you need it.  I can always find a few guys around to help track or drag, or cut up and grind   :)   .

Congratulations! I'm a big fan of hunting with a paddle, for reasons that I obviously don't need to explain to you.
