Mad Bomber hat story .
« on: July 24, 2016, 12:17:00 PM »
I was gifted a Mad Bomber hat a few years ago .
It's light tan with tan-brown rabbit fur .
That is very comfortable and I wear it quite often while bow hunting .
Now I'm not a tree hunter but about two years ago I was in a ladder stand with my ghillie suit on but I didn't have my head cover on over the hat because I was getting very warm .
Had been very quiet with hardly any small animal activity .
I was turned slightly to my right with my head looking around the tree , when I slowly turned my head back front , and      :scared:    jumpin' gehosaphat !!!!
A Cooper Hawk flaired up just about a foot in front of my face and flew off .

That was more excitement than I was wanting to have being 18' up in a ladder stand .
I figured it thought that the fur on my hat was dinner .

I've heard other such stories from guys who were wearing "fur" on their person. Even 1, I remember, where the hunter was hatless and a particular raptor tried taking his scalp with him.
One of the things that keep being in the woods "interesting"!
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

Fur on a hat or collar is a good way to get yourself shot in PA. My high school science teacher was killed in gun season.

Same goes with white fletching. My buddy was mistaken for a deer by a gun hunter. No shots fired though.

Be careful out there, it's not just raptors that think you are supper!

I had a Snowy Owl giving me the Hairy Eyeball when I was wearing a camo hat with some fake fur earflaps.

Yeah, I have been buzzed by hawks several times when wearing a fuzzy hat. I would really hate for one to complete the attack. That could be a real bummer!

Had a very large hawk buzz very small German shorthair while chuckar hunting.  They will eat, even your hat!
