What glue for fletching wood shafts?
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:03:00 PM »
First time making wood arrows... which glue do I need for fletching the wood shafts?  I'm not a fan of tape - not at all.  I've use Gorilla super glue on carbons for years with great results.  I'll be using wipe on poly as the sealER on the shafts.

Duco works well if you can find it, but it is slow. Same for the Saunders NPV (love this stuff, but slow). I personally have been using the same Loctite Ultragel Super Glue that I use on carbons and it seems to be holding up fine (I do put a spot of the NPV at either end of the feather). You could likely use the same Gorilla glue you've been using. Just for the record, I also use Minwax wipe on poly (oil based / gloss).

I have had good results with the Gorilla Super Glue .
But I prefer NVP .
The Super Glue can make a cloudy haze along the feather but it is still a strong bond .

Depends on the finish.  Duco works well with poly or gasket lacquer.

I've used fetch tite for nearly 50  years and never had a failure.

I've had excellent results with both Fletch-Tite and Saunders NPV. prefer the latter.

For wood arrows and a poly finish, Duco works best for me.

Duco for me, but I guess as mentioned above, the finish on your shaft could influence how well a particular glue works.
