Arrow Dynaimcs for 70# Bow
«

Hi all!
It's been a long while, but I'm getting back into Trad archery :D Life has thrown me a couple of curve balls over the last few years and I had to sell my beloved customs. Finally Im in a place where I can get back into Trad...and am finalising details on a new custom longbow. Specs are going to be 70# @ 28".
I was wondering if Arrow Dynamics Trad shafts are going to be stiff enough, if cut to 29" with about 250gr up front. Any idea what the total weight on that shaft would be?
I'd be open to any other shaft suggestions too?
Any advice appreciated, thanks!

The AD Trads will work fine out of your bow. They are 11 gpi, you could also go with AD Hammerheads heavys, they are 12.5 gpi.

Thanks Danny, are those 300 Xtreme broadheads still available? I did a quick search but couldn't come up with a supplier

I've used the AD Trads in a few bows 73-80lbs. If i remember correctly they came in at 755 grains cut to 30 1/2", 100 gr. brass inserts with three fletch and 300 grain VPA's.
I found the AD's tuned up well in a variety of bows (center shot, near center shot and ASL).
I have been using the Gold Tips for the last couple of years just because i was able to source them cheaper, and with double footing i have found them incredibly durable.

Thanks for the info Daz. Which Gold Tips are you using...the Big Game +100's? Mind if I ask what you mean by double footing?

I'm using the older .300 spine 75/95's.
I double foot by first putting a 1 1/2" piece of of 2216 shafting over the front end (including insert). I then put a 1" piece of 2413 over the 2216. This adds about 50gr of weight, but more importantly makes the arrow almost indestructible on solid hits.
I have a couple of arrows built like this that have well over 4000 shots on them, including stumping and "oops" moments. In fact last fall the arrow that passed through my mule deer buck ploughed into a pile of rocks behind him.
No damage to the VPA head or arrow.

Everything I shoot is in the #60-70 range.
I have had really good success with Full Metal Jackets, 340-250s depending on the bow. I think they are very easy to tune and get high FOC.
I also foot them, not sure it's necessary.

Appreciate the feedback, thanks guys! The double footing sounds like an awesome method, might try that. TexasKing the FMJ's do seem to have enough spine, although they end up slightly heavier than I was hoping for . Do you find them durable enough..I mean in terms of bending?
Has anybody got any opinion of the Alaska Bowhunting Momentum TDT shafts? They seem just the ticket...pricey though!

Yes sir, they are very durable. It takes a pretty good glancing blow to bend one. Only problem I have with them is the tendency to penetrate their aluminum casing when struck by another arrow(no, I don't shoot tight enough groups that that is common.)
I shoot them in a variety of styles of bows including ASLs.
Yes, the Momentum shafts are awesome, very tough, just expensive.
I have yet to get any of the small diameter shafts, but I'm sure they're top notch.

Mark,
No the 300 xtreme is no longer available. Bob Morrison was having some made that are very similar but do not know if he is still having them made.

Thanks again guys, I might look at getting some of the TDT shafts in and report back when my bow finally arrives.

It's easy enough to weight up some grizzlies to 300 gr and beyond.
