just my luck
« on: August 10, 2016, 12:30:00 PM »
3 days before GLLI and my main shooter blows up!!! Went out last night to shoot and after stringing my long bow, I was putting on my armguard and I hear a cracking noise. I look over at my bow and it looks like it is being drawn then I realize that my top limb has hinged over at about a 45 degree angle. It delaminated right up the belly side of the riser on the top limb. sure glad I have a backup bow for this weekend.

did the delam start at the ramps or the fades?  Pretty much typical to start there.  Maybe something you did to it the last time you shot it or maybe something to do with unstringing it and stringing it today.

Started at the ramps and went right up to the fades. bow is a year and a half old. It is the second bow that my son and I have built off the Binghams forms. It is the 62" hybrid 45# at 25.5". Not sure why it did it. Looks like the lam just split width wise right in the middle. there is still wood on the riser. Always use a stringer to string and unstring.

They are made out of wood, and sometimes they just go!!!!!

It always sucks when they do go.

Sorry for your loss, but look on the bright side, now you have a reason to build another one!

Bisch, My thoughts also, just got to figure out what I want next. Building them is a lot of fun watching it come from a gob of glue and chunk of wood to a bow. I will be taking this to GLLI and talking to all the long bow builders there this weekend to see if maybe they can tell me if it was a fluke or builder error.
