Kodiak magnum vs supermag 48
« on: August 12, 2016, 02:45:00 AM »
So I realize that there are a ton of used kodiak magnums for sale. I also occasionally see supermag 48s used but they seem to draw a higher price and are more sought after. I eventually want to try them both. For those who have shot both bows, how do they differ besides one being 52in and the other 48in. Is there any benefit to going with the 48 besides how "short" it is. Also I have a efa bow quiver and use 32 inch arrows. would it be pointless to go with the 48 mag since my arrows would likely be longer than the bottom limb tip. Thanks

Have both and I think the K-Mag handles a little better .
The Super 48 is a little less forgiving .

I have owned both. My KMag had a limb failure on a shot on doe last season and I replaced it with a SuperMag. I draw 28" so keep that in mind if any of you have long draws but I really don't think there is much in it as far as one being easier to shoot. I will hunt with the Supermag this fall. I was a bit concerned about the SuperMag but I shot 3-4 different ones at Cloverdale and was pleasantly suprised. I really thought it was going to be tougher to shoot.

K-Mag all the way unless you have a very very short draw.Killed my first deer with a K-Mag in 1976 and still hunt with one in a blind.Kip

Kmags. I have not seen many older super mags. I have heard too many stories of them breaking after just a couple years. I have not heard one bad thing about a k mag.

I did a full review on the Supermag 48 in the last two years with lots of pics, do a search on Pow Wow.  I think I nicknamed it American Horsebow.  In the lower poundages 45# or less it's a brilliant little bow for close distances under 20 yds or less for tight shots.  It seems to limit out draw wise right around 29-29.5", I wouldn't push it past that.  With 10-10gop arrows and a skinny string and Bow Hush it was super quiet.

If you want a nice 52 inch bow I highly recommend the Teolke kestrel! I'm shocked both the KMag and the super 48 and would consider the kestrel to be a much better now.

100% agree Toelkes are superb!  Prolly my all time favorite bowyer aside from a few others.  Dan just refined the Kestrel and renamed it the Toelke Troll.  It's even quieter and even better shooting, which is hard to believe.

My older super mag which I bought new was fine, for thirty years or so,  I sold it to finance a new bow.I just like a little longer bow. 60-64" generally.

Just got outbid on a really nice looking ben pearson hunter. the winner paid 110+12 shipping. I'm more of a one surfboard type person. I hope archery is the same. I really dont want to become a bow collector but after 2 weeks of archery I almost bought a 3rd bow. So far I have a bear grizzly thats yet to arrive, a Sammick sage one piece, and i'm currenty checking out a kodiak magnum but after losing the pearson bid war, I have a feeling that this one is going to get away. Since breaking my first bow, im in the same mindset as my surfboards...One main board/bow...one backup. Been surfing my whole life and I see surfboards as similar to bows. Water damage, cracking, breaking, personal preferances, skill level, sizing, all these factors are parrallel with surfboards. Even if I have 20 surfboards, I will always gravitate toward one. The rest just become backups. Wondering If bows are similar. I still want to try different ones to get a feel for what I like.

I have both myself and my 69 super mag is fun to shoot but not as accurate as my 50th anniversary Kodiak Magnum. Though the 2 bows were made many many years apart. My Kodiak  Mag shoots just as accurate as my Bob lee, predator, and my Great plains. True story

I would choose the kmag

Only shot 1 supermag and it was in a pretty low draw weight so I cant say I have really gave it a fair shake.
