3 blade vpa and low poundage?
« on: September 05, 2016, 12:22:00 PM »
Hey all. This will be my first year hunting with my Bob Lee. It's 43# at my 30" draw. Just wondering if these broadheads will be ok or if I should switch to 2 blades? They are flying great and my arrows are 560 grains about 13 gpp. Thanks for any help.

I have killed deer with Trailmaker 3 blade heads with a bow that was 51# at 28 inches, so it was probably shooting 48# at my draw weight. Penetration was complete.

You'll be fine!!! Sounds like an awesome set up, I shot 3 deer with the 3 blade VPA with a 41@28" ILF bow and had exit holes in all 3......VPA makes a fantastic head!!! Sic em

I have killed quite a few deer with 3 blade VPA with 47# @ 30" longbow.  Always complete penetration if not complete pass thru.  I think you'll be fine.

Those are 3 blade heads that act like 2 blade heads

VPA's are "da bomb" and your long draw is giving you plenty of performance.  You probably have the power of a bow over 50 pounds at 28".  You are good to go!

You didn't say but I assume you are talking deer and not moose.

Been shooting these heads for awhile. Great heads no worries with your setup.

Have shot the 250 gn VPA 2 blade BH's against 250 gn VPA 3 blade BH's. The 2 blades would visibly penetrate much deeper into a blob. The 2 blade 250 gn VPA's would disappear into the denser version of the blob target which are not prone to giving up much with regard to penetration.

However, the 3 blade penetration was good and dead is dead.

Deer are not tough animals, you'll blast right through them.

Most likely so...nice draw length for a longer power stroke....but you didn't say what you were hunting....so I can't say for sure.

I'm shooting the same heads and my poundage isn't a whole lot heavier. I haven't shot a deer with them yet, but these things will get so sharp I don't think a deer would slow them down much if you get a good edge on them. I've got bald spots all over my legs from sharpening mine lol.
