Youth Custom recommendation?
« on: September 07, 2016, 12:46:00 AM »
I would like to  give my 11year old son a custom recurve.

I gave my oldest son a custom recurve from Legend Bows, but the youngest wants his bow from somewhere different..   :knothead:

So without breaking the bank, who would you recommend?
Thanks in advance

The only one I have experience with is a Mad Dog longbow. A nice little long bow. Actually I entered a drawing here for my grandkids and we were selected.

This one was 26# at 26".

I plan on buying a couple more for my other kids families.

X4 for Mad Dog.  And I'd go with their mid sized 54" bow instead of the youth bow.  Or the mid sized longbow (Prairie Predator).  He'll be able to use it longer.  May eventually outgrow it depending on how tall he gets, but he might be able to shoot it from now on.  Lots of grown men on here hunt with Prairie Predators.  My 10 year old shoots a 64" recurve, 30@28", drawing around 24".

I was looking for a 35lb as that is the legal poundage for the state of NJ. Thanks to all for the great advice.

In that case, either of the Mad Dog mid sized bows would be a good buy.  I personally would go with the longbow around 60".  I think it would handle longer draw lengths better as he ages.

Mike Ballenger of 7 Lakes also makes a great mini Hill style.

And Mike Mecredy of Maddog.

I have both. Both are excellent bows!

St. Joe River!  My 10 year-old daughter recently moved up from their 48" youth model to a 56" Torrent longbow.  She loves it and it's a fantastic bow!

Northern Mist makes a nice basic entry level kids/ women's longbow if you really want something different, the model is called a Seney.  Give Steve a call.
Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.
