New limbs for my current fav riser

The last bow I bought I dropped weight to compensate for some issues of aging.  Due to shoulder surgery this Spring, I did not expect to hunt bow this year.  My surgeon is very conservative and even now, 16 weeks out, he has me on restrictions.

But…I got an invite to hunt private ground…OMG… how wonderful. Access here in my adopted state and area of NE TN has been tough! I told him I’m not yet shooting bows, but I’d go with and sit with a camera.  He suggested I bring any bow. hmmm... now there's a challenge...    :eek:  

Last fall I got a wild hair when I learned that Kirk at Bigfoot makes a SEMI-Static RC limb that fits my Sasquatch LB riser….. (he says it’s a SEMI-static limb in that the curves do open a tiny bit where his SS limbs do not and are true STATIC…)

Kirk does NOT mass produce varied replacement, bolt-on limbs. He wants to custom fit all limbs to YOUR riser- for reasons that made sense to me--- so I sent my bow to him with a deposit for the SEMI static RC limbs in lower draw weight.  (He calls them First Generation Sasquatch RC limbs)

They arrived!  Strung it up, put on silencers at 1/3 and ¼ marks… and did some limited shooting…as I’d been doing those pulling exercises and shot a few light bows

I started out with the .400 GTs I had made up for another bow with my preferred heavy front weight (EFOC)… they flew well out of other higher draw weight bows I can't shoot right now.

I have a few of the .400’s made up so I got the bow with new limbs put together, reinstalled the side plate and shelf material and took it outside to shoot!

10, 15, then 20, then 25 yards… Good heavens but that 38# set of SEMI – static limbs rockets those 585 gr. Arrows!  I’m tickled pink.

Since these new limbs spit arrows that I have ready to screw in heads and go hunt, I'm ready to go!  I will wait to do further testing till the arm is much stronger…

I don’t want to drift too far away from the lovely 47# LB limbs, as they’re sweet and lovely to shoot, but I’d not wish to fathom trying to pull them right now…thos 38’s were to keep me in the game a bit longer down the road.

Alright, glad they worked out for you. Kirk is eager to please his customers for sure and does excellent work. I see the less aggressive curve to the semi-static as compared to the static. Now you got me wanting to start saving for another Sasquatch.

I see Kirk has cleaned up the yard a bit.

I know he likes to test his limbs, can you share the numbers he may have sent you either here or a pm, thanks. Good luck on the hunt.

Best part is that I had arrows the would work!!!  

I wasn't in any shape to shoot a bunch to tune up new arrows, so that is a blessing.  So is the invite to hunt.

Of course, it's raining now after weeks of drought...tied to the hurricane moving up the coast...

Was same story last year when I traveled to central TN on invite to hunt... hurricane brought rain.  Just hope the hurricane doesn't do bad mischief to coastal folks.    

I can forego a hunt or get wet and come home!

That is a sharp looking bow doc! I like the I beam and the black glass on the belly with the wood spliced into the end.  Very cool.


I know you prolly arnt pulling it back as much as you want to but what do you think about the semi static compared to the longbow limbs?

Glad to hear the bow works well for you. When I had my surgery last February, I was concerned about shooting, but, luckily, I was shooting my 40# bow successfully in three weeks. I hope your experience works out that well, too. One word of caution, don't shoot too many arrows at one time. Maintain form and accuracy, but go rather slowly. You will be able to hunt successfully. I hope your biggest issue is getting somebody to help you drag that big buck out of the woods. Good luck!

Very cool your on the mend. Glad to see you found some ground to hunt.
 I shot a nice six point last Tuesday with a 38# recurve and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks to all for the kind comments, well wishes and compliments on the bow.

LT, I'm pulling full draw.  Those limbs of Kirk's tend to spit faster then most I've owned...something with the geometry, not magic.

There is a perceived let off on Static...I've not noticed it as much on the First Generation (semi-static) that goes on this LB riser, but I do notice the drop in weight!  I have NOT noticed a lot of difference in visual speed. I don't own a chrony so that is PERCEIVED speed!

Exactly... EZ does it... I shot more then 10 arrows and shoulder Aches...  I expect discomfort, but the surgeon has me paranoid with is super conservative restrictions... PT gives me better insights...

Ed, you are the killing machine!  IF I get them in my self-imposed wheel house, it'll kill em!

NOTHING SEEN, this am but rain and more rain. I feel for the coastal folks! All I got was damp but had a shooting house to sit in...these S'uthin boys got it figured out... would've been hard to shoot out the sliding windows as they weren't that big, but..it was wonderful to be out in the TN Woods! My landowner / host killed a turkey with his bow...but it was the training wheel kind so no pics..
