Went out this morning for a bit. It was really cold, 29 when I got to my spot, and changing into my hunting clothes was a less than enjoyable experience. Everything was frosted over and the leaves were very crunchy. It was a beautiful morning. Around 7:45 I had a big spike come through. I got excited at first since his frame looked like a decent buck, but he had no tines. He passed at about 12 yards. Then I had a doe with two fawns come through at 12 yards as well. I had to be somewhere at 10:30, so at 9:45 I began packing up. I just happened to glance down the valley to my right and saw a deer coming through the trees. I couldn't see its head, but it had a big body. Then it stepped out and I recognized it as the buck that I almost got last Friday. I got set for a shot, but at 50 yards he turned and started up the powerline, never giving me a shot. I was shaking pretty bad, even though he never got close. The next best thing to shooting a big deer is getting excited over seeing a big deer, and I really wished that I didn't have to leave. Needless to say, I was a bit later than 10:30.
I'm going out again tonight. Maybe Lady Luck will send something my way. Good luck to everyone else out there!
