Straight clamp, matter if R or LW feather
« on: November 01, 2016, 01:24:00 PM »
I am asking to find a specific answer.  I have made peace with which feather orientation I use, left or right so those opinions are not sought.

However, does anyone have ACTUAL knowledge of whether it matters if you use a right or left wing feather in a straight clamp with a slight offset?

I know some like lots of helical. Not my question.  I just want to know if there is a factual base for discussing whether a right wing or left wing feather matters with offset of a straight clamp...

Thanks!        :help:

I used to offset LW to the left and RW to the right with straight clamps. The feather will have a natural curl to it and you don't want to go against that. Did I ever put them on opposite of the wing to try it? No.

I use a straight clamp most of the time.....just off set to the left for LW and right for RW just like reddogge said above. Seems to work fine.

I just made these up yesterday. Right wing feathers in an offset straight clamp.

Bitz dial settings:

I haven't got any left wing feathers to try right now.

With the natural curl of the feather if you fletched a LW feather in a right offset the right offset would be fighting the left curl for the spin.

Pretty much already said.
Just use the correct wing to more easily make the slight curl.
