Public Land So. MD
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:18:00 AM »
Ive found a pretty busy area on some public land down here, plenty of scrapes and rubs, and little turds everywhere.  Unfortunately, its public land, and on the sign in sheet, theres been at least 60 people through there since September, so Im sure the deer are spooked plenty.  Ill just have to bide my time.

Found this rub last year, and its been freshened up this year.

You have to sign in to use public land there? I've never heard of that before. Maybe there's only been one person, and he just made up a bunch of names to make people think that there are lots of hunters using the area.     :D

Yeah some areas require you to sign in with time, vehicle tag number, animals hunted, and number killed.  A few also require a $5 fee. It is annoying.

Making up a bunch of names would be clever, but I have seen boot prints out and about too.

Depending on how big the area is that's really not a lot of traffic. Most don't go deep and most don't hunt close to the parking area.
All I hunt is public land in MD the deer are accustomed to human traffic

I know a guy that used to  make big scrapes around the WMA parking areas. Everybody would key in on the sign and he would hunt further in. Not encouraging it, but it definitely influences the other hunters. I think he was making big rubs to, but he would never admit to it for fear of being prosecuted for harming the trees.

I like it, Warden.  Ill save that for a rainy day.

The park is fairly large, so the deer have room to spread out.  But no matter how far I go out, I almost always see some fairly recent human sign.  However, I think this spot is solid enough.  If not, better luck next year. Staying positive.
