Recurve length vs draw length
« on: November 12, 2016, 02:32:00 PM »
Hi all,

My draw length is 27.5" approx...the bow I'm looking at is available in 58", 60" and 62" lengths. Which length do I go for? Would there be a difference in performance between the shorter lengths, or the feeling of the draw, shootability etc?

Thanks!

I've owned bows in all those lengths, and I now shoot a 58" recurve and I have a 28" DL. I never could tell a difference between them. With your draw, I wouldn't be afraid to go with the 58".

With your draw length any of those lengths should work just fine. It is really personal, if you can shoot on of each and choose based on your personal experience.

If you're primarily target shooting or hunting in open areas, I would go with the 62".  If you're hunting in a blind or other conditions where your movement may be restricted, go with the 58".  Longer length means less finger pinch and possibly a cleaner release; shorter length means less concern about what your bow tip might hit.

I draw just over 29" and have bows in all those lengths.  Though I have a couple 58" that do tend to get into finger pinch.  It can depend on the design and how the tips work.

If in doubt go 60"

I know some will not agree but a longer bow will shoot/feel better/smoother.

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it! I reckon I'll go 60" and split the difference
