Hog hunt
« on: December 03, 2016, 12:08:00 PM »
A friend and I are interested in hunting hogs with our primitive bows. Does anyone have any recommendations for a outfitter/lodge?

I noticed the ad for Hunt Wild Things. Anyone have any experience with this outfit that they would be willing to share?

Wild Things is a terrific place. The accommodations are clean and comfortable, and the food is excellent. It is all-inclusive, no hidden costs.

There are about 3000 acres with completely wild hogs.It is not easy hunting because the hogs are unpredictable and wary, but when you do get one in range your heart will pound like a drum.

The countryside there is just beautiful. I go down at least once a year, more often if my schedule permits, and I always love being there. It's worth every penny.

Thank you Joe. I don't know what easy hunting looks like  :)  We are experienced western states bow hunters (deer, elk, bear, antelope) but do not have any experience hunting hogs. Are folks at the lodge open with their knowledge and willing to help newbies?

I highly recommend Wild Things!

Andrew is not only an excellent cook but is very helpful in getting his hunters into hogs. By the end of the week he will also be one of your best friends. Charlie takes care of the property and will get you into the hot stands with feeders.

There are miles of easy walking roads throughout the property and beautiful cypress swamp. We typically still hunt all morning then sit the ladder stands in the evening.

We love to sit back in the porch rockers with a cold one and watch the pond gators catching frogs. These are true wild animals that have never seen a fence. The deer, turkeys, armidillos, and swamp birds are plentiful. The evening calls of the swamp are something else with owls and frogs sounding off.

Our hunt last year was our 9th I think. I've had my chances in the past but finally killed one. I was within range of two different groups while still hunting a swamp road then had 16 come in to my stand where I got my shot.

We will be back in mid Feb.

When Joe says 'easy hunting'...that really means flatlands....but you can walk your tail off at Wild things if you want to....similar to TX in 'easy' but not the same in environment.

You have Mule Creek....Jerry Russel...Wild Things....True South...all sponsors here that offer different types of hunting in different parts of the world.  It all depends on what you want to do....so, have a look at their sites from the Sponsor Links forum and see what route you want to take...there are threads on all of these guys and their hunts to give you a little more perspective...but visit the sites before you search for threads.

Nothing but good things to say about Mule Creeks Texas hunts. I've hunted with Jacob every year since they started in Texas. If you want to fill the freezer head to Texas. My group took 18 hogs this past February with a few real big hogs. They have added a few more ranches as well and are setting up a second camp/ bunkhouse for new ranches as well.
